Temasek Design School students were featured on the Channel 8 current affairs magazine programme, Good Morning Singapore. In a panel discussion on TP’s newly launched >60 Design Centre and the silver industry this morning, Moses Wong, Director of Temasek Design School, and two Design students helped to highlight the work of the new centre.
Apparel Design & Merchandising student Lu Ying Cheng discussed the features in her sleeping windbreaker that would make travelling easy for the elderly, while Product & Industrial Design student Johnathan Siew explained how his intelligent key chain can help the elderly with poor eyesight find the right keys for their doors.
They also shared how they came up with their design concepts and their visits to homes for the aged that helped them understand their needs. An overview of the role of >60 Design Centre was given by the Director in which he stressed that it is open to ideas not just from Design students but also from other disciplines in TP.
He gave the example of the white bread with low GI ingredients produced by Temasek Applied Science School which is a healthy choice for the old and diabetic. On designing for the elderly, he emphasised the social responsibility of young designers and added that it is a cornerstone of design education in TP.
