Official Opening of the >60 Design Centre

Official Opening of the >60 Design Centre, Temasek Polytechnic by His Excellency President S.R. Nathan

His Excellency President S.R. Nathan officially opened the >60 Design Centre at The Temasek Polytechnic on 27 June 2008.

The national design centre is seed-funded by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. It is also partnered by reputable social organizations, healthcare institutions and business groups such as SPRING Singapore, Council for Third Age, Alexandra Hospital, Jurong Medical Centre, Centre for Seniors and the Meiban Group Ltd.

Not only a think-tank for ideas and solutions for the lifestyles of the elderly in the areas of habitat, healthcare, communications, mobility, fashion and lifestyle, the Centre will also serve as a conduit of ideas from conception to manufacture and implementation. It hopes to create greater awareness of ageing issues in industry and the general public in terms of social design issues.

As part of the official opening, the >60 Design Centre launched the second volume of the “>60” book series entitled: “An Inclusive Approach” generated by students from Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Design. The book was presented to His Excellency.
