‘Conceptualisation of products’: with Dick Powell
Another very welcome guest to the slew of Design Unplugged speakers this May is none other than Dick Powell from Seymour Powell Design group based in the UK. Dick is co-founder and CEO of Seymourpowell. Since forming Seymourpowell in 1984, the consultancy has risen to a commanding position on the international stage, with clients as diverse as Nokia, Dell, Yamaha, Tefal, Casio, Jaguar and BMW.
From the world's first cordless kettle from Tefal in 1987, to Casio's reinvention from hi-tech watches to sporty G-Shock in 1991, to the most compact cellphone from Nokia in 1992, and to the world's first purpose-built hydrogen fuel cell motorbike in 2005 – Europe's most celebrated design consultancy SeymourPowell was behind them all. Dick Powell is founding partner of SeymourPowell who believes that design is about making things better for people. If it's not better...then it's not design. Dick has also written many design books, especially product illustration and rendering techniques.

Seymourpowell has won numerous design awards including Design Week, D&AD, ID Award, BBC Design Award, Minerva Award, D&AD President’s Award, France’s Janus Award, America’s Starpak and Silver Screen Awards (for best corporate film), DBA’s Design Effectiveness Awards, the Gerald Frewer Memorial Trophy (for the Institute of Engineering Designers) and has been twice shortlisted for the Prince Philip Design Prize.
The workshop is on Thursday, 10th May 07, 4 - 6pm at Level 5, PID Studio. Check out Seymourpowell’s site for more corporate info: http:// www.seymourpowell.com/home.html
