PATRICIA TAN

Patricia has more than 15 years of experience working in graphic design and now enjoys her second career transferring her knowledge to and nurturing young minds.

Educated at Baharuddin Vocational Institute, regarded by the industry as the pioneer forming ground for local graphic design students, Patricia graduated to spend many enriching and successful years in prominent local design consultancies like Addison Design and Immortal Design. Patricia’s portfolio covers a wide spectrum of design disciplines that include print collaterals, corporate literature, identity design and packaging.

Describing herself a ‘right brainer’ with an equal dose of ‘left brain’ logic, Patricia sees how important that critical and analytical thinking integrate with creativity to produce sound and innovative design solutions. Her hope is that her students will step more and more onto this platform in a design world that is more competitive and globalize.

To appease her cerebral side, Patricia pursued studies in Communications with Monash University. Her gain from this studies is the wonderful amalgamation of the what and why of communication theories with the how to of visual communication.

An area of interest which she hopes will find its way more and more into local design is a greater exposure to and awareness of the rich cultural and aesthetic heritage of the Southeast Asian region, and how designers can explore and exploit this to make our brand of graphic design distinctive.
