“When you want something, you really 'die-die' work for it.”-- Seah Siew Pei
Seah Siew Pei, Apparel Design and Merchandising Alumnus and recipient of University of New South Wales’ Jubilee Scholarship award, has always been a go-getter. Never satisfied with attaining just an ADM diploma, Siew worked hard through her 3 years at Temasek Design School. Siew emerged as the top student for ADM cohort and on the Director’s list in 2005. At an informal sharing session at LT 25 on 29 January 2007, Siew shared with her audience that her success in attaining the UNSW Golden Jubilee Scholarship Award depended on self-discipline and motivation.
Upon graduation in June 2005, Siew applied for scholarships and successfully got herself a place in University of New South Wales’ College of Fine Arts. Her Golden Jubilee Scholarship covered her school fees and her Diploma in Apparel Design & Merchandising also gave her 2 years advanced standing. Her overseas scholarship gave her an opportunity to learn independence while pursuing an overseas education in Australia. Siew said, “With interaction with people of other cultures, my design ideas broadened, my designs change and develop.” She expressed appreciation for Temasek Design School for giving her the fundamental knowledge of fabric and textiles, as she found it an added advantage as she pursues her university education. Her talk was indeed an encouragement to students who are working towards achieving scholarships and overseas education.
