It could have been just another class assignment for Chua Yu May, but it became the first prize for NEC’s 2009 Digital Imaging Competition.
As it turns out, it was Yu May’s lecturer, Mr Tan Tai Pang who encouraged her to submit her project for the annual digital competition
Out of a class of 24, five Visual Communication students work, including Yu May’s prize-winning design, received honorable mention from the organisers.
NEC Asia’s Director, Multi-Media Platforms, Kenji Shindo, one of the judges for the competition, had this to say of the submissions, “This year, I am once again impressed by what the students can do.”
“I was actually quite surprised to win”, Yu May says, “It is my first competition”.
After this brush with success, Yu May now sees entering competitions in a new light, “It’s an opportunity to get work published and to pitch against other submissions”.
