2007 Visual Communication graduate, Timothy Stuart Wee has had his works selected by the K - MoPA as part of their extensive permanent art collection. Two of Timothy's prints were among the top 4 or 5% of the total purchased by the museum.
The Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts (K - MoPA) organizes the annual "Young Portfolios" program (K - MoPA is one of two Photo Museums in Japan). Every year, K - MoPA accepts works to be considered for purchase as part of their collection in an effort to preserve works by young persons enthusiastic about expressing themselves through the art of photography.
Photographers, professional or amateur and regardless of nationality, are invited to submit their published or unpublished works to be considered for induction into the Museum's permanent collection. The single condition is that applicants must be 35 years old or younger. This year, about 6000 works were submitted.
Some of the big names in the museum’s collection include Ansel Adams, Nobuyoshi Araki, Edward Curtis, Robert Frank, William Klein, Helmut Newton, Irvin Penn, Jerry Uelsmann. Many local photographers have vied for this prestigious recognition but have not been able to meet the standards of the museum. Competing on International ground and spanning over many countries and works, Timothy has emerged as one of 3 Singaporeans listed in their collection.
There are currently only 3 Singaporeans whose works are in K - MoPA's permanent art collection, and Visual Communication Lecturer, Mr Chow Chee Yong is one of them.
